ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
Course Overview
A Pathway to Excellence in Health & Social Care
This Level 5 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care builds on the knowledge acquired at Level 4 enabling you to achieve organisational objectives. Equivalent to a 2nd year of a bachelor’s, this Level 5 Extended Diploma offers a flexible progression pathway to pursue a degree programme in health and social care in the third year at a recognised UK or international university. This opens the door to formalising your health and social care education with an ATHE certification. This Ofqual-regulated qualification provides a broad and practical curriculum covering responsibilities, values, innovation, professional development, and leadership in the health and social care sector. Ofqual is England’s main government-appointed regulatory body, regulating school and college qualifications, and vocational and technical qualifications. (Detailed information is given below).
This extended diploma is mapped to the skills and requirements for the Level 5 Diploma in Leading and Managing an Adult Care Service. This ensures your learning fully aligns with current health and social care expectations for learning and skills. Being certified in the Health and Social Care Level 5 Diploma (RQF) helps create a sense of compassion and responsibility towards those around you. There’s a high demand for health and social care professionals in both the public and private sectors, allowing you to work in hospitals, care homes, community centres, patient-care services, administration services, and private residences.
ATHE is one of the fastest-growing awarding organisations in the United Kingdom. Their qualifications are recognised internationally. If you meet the eligibility criteria and currently reside in the UK, you can apply for an advanced learner loan. South London College offers this course through flexible online learning, with up to 365 days of access to complete the course at your own pace.
(RQF qualifications carry meaning and recognition. They are regulated by Ofqual, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation that regulates qualifications, examinations, and assessments in England).

| Regulated by | OFQUAL The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) is a non-ministerial government department that regulates qualifications, exams, and assessments in England. Ofqual ensures that all qualifications offered by recognised awarding organisations meet national standards, so you can trust that any Ofqual-regulated certificate is high quality and widely recognised by employers and universities. RQF The Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) is a system used in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales to categorise and regulate qualifications based on their level of difficulty and size. RQF is jointly regulated by England’s regulator Ofqual, Wales DCELLS, and Northern Ireland’s CCEA. The RQF ensures qualifications are standardised, making it easier for learners, employers, and educational institutions to understand the value and level of each qualification. The framework consists of nine levels, from Entry Level to Level 8, with each level indicating the complexity and depth of learning. For a qualification to be recognised as part of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), it must be created or approved by an awarding body that is acknowledged by one of the government-appointed regulatory bodies. |
