Course Overview

This Certificate in Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities is suitable for learners working with, or intending to work with, individuals with learning disabilities, in a variety of areas.
The QCF qualification has now been replaced by the newer RQF qualification.

About this course

This is a level 2 qualification suitable for learners working with, or intending to work with, individuals with learning disabilities. This can be in a variety of areas, including a range of community settings, domiciliary care, schools, day provision, care or nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, or other settings in which people are being cared for.

The purpose of the course is to give learners an understanding of how having a learning disability affects individuals and how you can uphold good practice to help support people to live normal lives and integrate into society.

This qualification aims to give learners the knowledge, understanding and awareness required in order to work with people with Learning Disabilities. Learners will gain an insight into supporting people with learning disabilities and the autistic spectrum. The key principles of safeguarding, positive risk taking and personalisation are explored, as well as issues surrounding healthcare.

To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities, learners are required to successfully complete six mandatory units.

You will be provided with comprehensive materials designed to provide you with everything required to complete your Certificate in Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities. You will have your own dedicated tutor who will guide you through your coursework and answer any questions you may have during your course. Additionally, our support staff will provide you with any practical advice by email or phone.

  • Module One: Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Module Two: Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Module Three:Introduction to personalisation in social care
  • Module Four: Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with disabilities
  • Module Five: Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
  • Module Six: Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare
Entry requirements:

The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about the principles of working with individuals with learning disabilities and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course. You have the freedom to start this course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

The learner will complete a portfolio of evidence by successfully completing all of the activities at the end of each unit. This portfolio is assessed by your tutor who will mark and sign off each completed unit of study.

Upon successful completion of the 17 credits, students will receive a certificate of achievement from the awarding organisation, TQUK.
